The EV charger rebate program for homes, workplaces, and multi-unit residential buildings has helped British Columbians adopt cleaner transportation options.
Administered by BC Hydro, the CleanBC Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program for Homes and Workplaces is funded by the Government of B.C.'s Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, with occasional financial support from the Government of Canada. This initiative offers rebates for purchasing and installing EV chargers and related infrastructure, preparing homes and workplaces across the province for electric vehicles.
Understanding the key factors for rebate eligibility can help you maximize your savings and ensure a smooth process. Below are the important points to consider before starting your project.
Our electricians will help you obtain pre-approval from BC Hydro for EV charger rebates before purchasing and installing any equipment. After receiving pre-approval, you have six months to complete the project and submit your final application.
Apartment, condo, and townhome complexes must have been built before August 31, 2021, to qualify. This rebate is only available for retrofits, so new constructions are not eligible. Additionally, buildings constructed after municipal bylaws mandating EV Ready parking stalls came into effect are not eligible for the EV Ready plan or infrastructure rebates.
You can apply for these rebates together to streamline EV-related upgrades in your building, or apply for them separately as your project progresses
• EV Ready plan rebate: Covers up to 75% of the cost, up to $3,000, for developing an EV Ready plan—a professional strategy to ensure at least one parking space per residential unit is equipped for EV charging.
• EV Ready infrastructure rebate: Provides up to 50% of the cost to install the electrical infrastructure needed to support your EV Ready plan, with a maximum of $600 per parking space and a total project cap of $120,000.
• EV charger rebate: Covers up to 50% of the cost, up to $1,400 per charger, for purchasing and installing Level 2 networked EV chargers as part of your EV Ready plan, with a project cap of $14,000.
• EV charger rebate: Offers up to 50% of the cost, up to $2,000 per charger, for purchasing and installing a Level 2 networked EV charger at residential parking spaces in your complex, with a maximum of $14,000 per project.
To qualify for the rebate, charging stations must meet the following criteria:
aetherEV’s ARC PLUS chargers are “smart,” networked and eligible for these rebates as per the BC Hydro website
Electric Vehicle chargers distribute clean energy. As a result, unlike fossil fuels, which negatively impact ICE (internal combustion engines) drivers by ensuring an added carbon tax, hydro electricity distribution attracts carbon credits. aetherEV utilizes a qualified third party to validate and monetize carbon credits. These credits can be very lucrative.
For example, PlugInBC offers rebates for fast-charging stations in areas that are underserved or have high demand. The Province has contributed over $13 million to this initiative through the GoElectric Public Charger Program, with additional funding from Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program. Expanding B.C.’s highway network coverage was a collaborative effort involving utilities, local governments, Indigenous communities, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, and the private sector.
These incentive programs open and close over time so it is to vital to keep abreast of the latest offerings by visiting PlugInBC website
aetherEV’s chargers can be easily accessed by the EV driver in 3 ways:
• via utilizing our QR code
• tapping our RFID card
• using our app
All of aetherEV’s “smart” commercial grade Level 2 and Level 3 EV chargers have the ability to recognize who is charging their vehicle and ensure the electricity is properly charged for, with no guessing by the strata or property owner as to what to charge. In other words, an Uber driver will likely be using much more energy than an occasional city EV driver and each electron will be appropriately charged for.Once the property owner sets the energy rate (in $ per minute or per kW), the process is simple: 90% of the credit card revenue goes to the aetherEV charger owner with aetherEV retaining only 10% (unlike many of our competitors who keep 50% or more of the revenue). This revenue is disbursed to the property owner by aetherEV on a monthly basis.
Our backend software is very fulsome and rivals our competitors. In real time, a property manager can e-graphically assess how many cars are charging in which stalls, the dynamic load adaption and if any are fully charged and simply idling, not allowing new cars to charge (and thus, be subject to penalties). This is a strong competitive advantage aetherEV has and speaks again to why supplying a Total Solution (with aetherEV supplying and being responsible for the hardware AND the software) to the customer is so vital.
